The Milk Controversy
May 21st, 2007 by Jessica Dawn
A few days ago I talked about some facts regarding the water and the chemicals used in most city water supplies. Now I would like to discuss some issues surrounding another popular American drink: Milk.
Before I go any further, I would like to make one point clear. The internet offers us immediate access to almost any type of information. It’s an awesome tool that leaves us no room for being uninformed of our favorite topics of interest.
The availability of the internet to everyone is both a strength and a weakness. This is because anyone who feels like communicating their opinion has a platform from which to speak, no matter if it’s accurate or not. There is absolutely no standard for the facts and opinions communicated and anytime we learn information on the internet, we must do it with scrutiny. We must ask ourselves what resources are being used to formulate the writers opinions and if the information is accurate.
That being said, today I would like to make you aware of the controversy surrounding cows milk. Instead of listing all the facts for you to read, I thought I would give you the various resources I’ve found regarding this subject. It’s my hope that with these resources you’ll be able to draw your own conclusions regarding cows milk.
It’s health topics like this on that I want to share it with you, just to make you aware and to empower you to make informed decisions about your personal health and nutrition program (you can’t do that without having the information!).
The basic issues surrounding the cows milk controversy are: 1) The biotechnology hormones used to mass produce milk. 2) The treatment of dairy cows in mass producing milk. 3) The effectiveness of cows milk as a source of calcium for humans.
